A few numbers

A few numbers

900,000 people cast write-in votes or voted for obscure parties for President in 2016.  In 2012 about 600,000 people chose that course.

5.3 million people voted for Gary Johnson (Libertarian) or Jill Stein (Green) in 2016.  In 2012 1.7 million people voted for them.  Governor Johnson and Dr. Stein represented their respective parties in the previous election.

127 million people voted for President in 2016 compared to129 million in 2012 and 131 million in 2008

Voter participation has dropped from 60% to 52% in eight years.

Secretary Clinton’s margin of victory in the popular vote is now 500,000.   As the last votes are counted her margin will exceed Vice President Al Gore’s margin.   There’s a strange irony that the two people most closely associated with President Bill Clinton won the popular vote and lost the Electoral College.

I’m not sure what any of this means.  On every day before last Tuesday, I knew the earth was round.  Now I’m not so sure.
