Bi-monthly Columnist for the Raleigh News & Observer Starting This Sunday

Bi-monthly Columnist for the Raleigh News & Observer Starting This Sunday

For those of you who take the N&O, I will be writing a bi-monthly column for the Sunday business section.  The first piece will run this Sunday, July 21, 2013.  The column will follow along the lines of Meditations on Money Management.  I’m expecting that it will include some drawings.

For my friends and relatives outside North Carolina who didn’t completely understand the first sentence; down here we “take” the paper rather than subscribing.  In any event you’ll be able to find the column at http://www.newsobserver.com/business/.

I'll post the columns.

  1. Really enjoyed the column, Very eye-opening considering we use a money manager. Would be interested in your index fund recommendations.

  2. In index investing, the size of the mutual fund or ETF matters -- bigger is generally better because it drives down expenses. So it makes sense to focus on Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab, iShares, and SPDR -- the largest providers. I also recommend focusing on the broad based indices that track large cap, small cap, and int'l stocks as well as bonds.
